The hike to the legendary Takstang Monastery offers you the sheer joy, spiritual satisfaction and releases you from all emotional blockages. The Monastery is perched in the cliff and it looks impossible in the beginning but it is the trail which you enjoy the best. The monastery is believed the birthplace of Buddhism. So, it is regarded as the sacred monastery where Guru Padmasambhava said to have been flown from Tibet on his divine consort Tiger and meditated there for 3 years 3 months and 3 days. This is a pilgrimage site and Bhutanese come to pay honor and seek blessings from Guru Rinpoche. The monastery was built in1692.
The monastery looks like a tiny white speck from the valley floor. Anyone can have a choice either to hike all the way up or to ride a horse up to the allowed point. The view of the monastery and the cliff seem dramatic from the way. The trail passes through the pie forest and water powered prayer wheels surrounded by the prayer flags.
After you reach to the monastery, the view from the top the valley seem awesome. The inner sanctum of the monastery is amazing with statues of Guru Rinpoche in his various manifestations. The cave where Guru Rinpoche meditated is sealed off and opened once a year. The atmosphere throughout the monastery is mystical. After exhausting hike up, anyone feels peace and tranquility in mind.
